What is your health goal?

I had high blood pressure and high cholesterol, but the thing that bothered me the most is my type 2 diabetes diagnosis, because my Dad suffered from it. I lost him in 2012 and I didn’t want my family to deal with this again.

I want to do more than just manage T2D. I’ve heard about people that changed their life and got rid of it, so that’s my ultimate goal - to not have it anymore.

What is your greatest motivation?

My Dad is a huge part of my motivation.

I wanted to change - I wanted to reverse the disease and I didn’t want to take medication anymore. I wanted to show people that it’s possible to overcome it and to be a role model and source of inspiration for others.

What is the biggest challenge you faced?

Changing the foods I ate to focus on whole, plant-based foods was the biggest challenge at the beginning. I didn’t know if I had the willpower to go on without dairy and meat.

What level of support do you have from people around you?

So many of my family and friends thought I was crazy, and still do at times, but my sister always believed in me. She has been my strongest supporter throughout the whole process.

How have you changed through this experience?

The energy I’ve attained since I started the program has been AMAZING. I feel more alert throughout the day and less tired. I’m motivated to just keep moving forward.

Has your health improved?

After 4 months, my A1c went down by -1.7% and my blood pressure and cholesterol returned to normal. I was taken off of medications for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.


How is your quality of life these days?

Going through the Better program has shown me that I am capable of many things, in many aspects of my life. It’s been a wonderful journey.

Although at times I don’t always have perfect eating habits, I always wake up the next day and go back to what got me here in the first place.

I’m full of energy and constantly strive to improve my eating habits and physical activity. I’ve discovered a passion for CrossFit and train several times a week.

What is life like now?

Today, people in my life are now turning to me and asking how I can help them, because they see how good I feel and all of the progress that I’ve made.
